We do raise other things on the farm in order to remain diversified and to satisfy different customers. Contact us for pricing and availability. All of our animals are naturally raised. We treat our animals humanely; our animals are never fed animal by-products and we are conscientious stewards of the environment.
Chickens and Eggs
Blue Sky Farm’s poultry are raised cage-free and range on fresh pasture all summer long. They are fed local grain and an abundance of fruits and vegetables. Chickens play an important role in the Blue Sky Farm ecosystem by adding and recycling nutrients, aerating pastures, controlling insects and turning compost.
Our laying hens live on pasture with our goats and are allowed free range. During the winter months, the hens are housed in a central location where they spend their time picking through table scraps, weeds, and bedding looking for insects and worms. They receive no hormones, antibiotics, or animal by-products. Happy hens make healthy eggs, and the difference is definitely visible. The result is dark orange yolks that stand up in the pan and are easily separated from the whites without breaking. It is a difference that you can see and taste.
Pigs
Our pigs are lively and social; they run, play, relax, snuggle, and loll about in the mud. A pig’s reputation for intelligence—boosted by popular books, and many You Tube videos—is well earned. Our pigs do not live on cement slab, but rather in an open area that includes both field and woods. They are able to ramble about in their space. They have grass and natural feed to snack on and their own private mud hole. A happy foraging pig leads to the highest quality meat with a higher amount of omega 3 fatty acids, beta carotene, and vitamin E than store bought pork.
Goats
We specialize in Boer goats. Boers may be large and in charge, but they can also be quite wonderful goats. At times we cross breed our Boer with a Kiko/Boer mix for an even hardier, more disease resistant breed. While the primary purpose of these goats is meat production, we often sell people kids whose primary purpose will be as companion pets, pack goats or show goats. These docile goats tend to work well with both children and other animals.
